GPR : Global Postural Reeducation

The GPR is considered as a revolutionary method on several points but especially for two reasons :

1st Rule :

Our musculo-skeletal system is made up of dynamic muscles, not much tonic, they are designed to do movements, and made up of static muscles, more fibrous and tonic, which role is to deal with our postural behaviour when we are standing or sitting down.
The dynamics can relaxed when we are underactive (ie : abdominal muscles) but the statics that are constanly used are always meant shorten or tighten (ie : the neves of the spinal column or the hamstring).
The first originality of the GPR is always stretching the static muscles.

2nd Rule :

In order to act in a coordinate way, our muscles step over themselves making up "muscles chains". If in the middle of a row of people walking together arm in arm somebody stumbles, his imbalance will be transmitted to the other people.
In the same way, a traction aiming at stretching a muscle from the chain will result immediately in a compensation in any point of the muscle chain that will force to stretch the whole chain.
The global nature in the stretching is an absolute necessity..

Static muscle chains :

  • The main back chain
  • The main forechain
  • The inspiration chain
  • The antero-internal chain of the shoulder
  • The antero-internal chain of the hip
  • The upper chain of the shoulder
  • The side chain of the hip
  • The front chain of the arm
